James Rigney, Jr Oct 17, 1948 – Sept. 16, 2007

The Creator, an Author, a Mentor, a Friend, a Father, and a Husband.

13 years ago on the 16th of September 2007, James Rigney Jr known us as, Robert Jordan (The Creator of the World of The Wheel of Time) passed away. Jordan was a best-selling writer of twenty-five books, published in 22 countries around the world.

"He was in constant communication with his fans throughout the world, and touched millions of lives through his writing. In his series, he described the term ta’veren as one who is chosen by the Wheel of Time to bend the pattern of the web of destiny; one thread which pulls others to it and changes lives without even realizing it. Such was the life of James Rigney, Jr. Whether he met them or did not, there are thousands of stories to be found of readers who connected through his books, forged lasting relationships, improved their lives and worked to serve others through charitable acts as a result of reading the Wheel of Time series." – Sela Narian

Robert Jordan had been receiving treatment for a rare blood disease amyloidosis with cardiomyopathy for over a year and a half. He was survived by his wife, Harriet, who served as his editor (and so much more), and his son, William. Upon receiving the news of his passing the community at TarValon.net received a huge surge in membership. Fans from all around the world were coming together to celebrate the life and mourn the loss of the First Gaidin.

Along with a memorial service for our members a collection of quotes was recorded in our library, Our Memories of Robert Jordan. While every member had not had the good fortune to meet Jordan during his lifetime his words were what had brought us together. In his memory an Obituary was written by Sela Narian along with a Biography written by Kariada Kunai. Both pieces can be found in our library.

"He spent his later years in Charleston in a historic house with his wife and publisher, Harriet. His home was at the junction of the Ashley and Cooper rivers, nestled serenely in a lush wood–a place he affectionately described as the Two Rivers. Jordan spent most of his time writing in a carriage house on the property, surrounded by thousands of books, antique weapons, hats, and gifts given to him by fans." – Kariada Kunai

Today, on the anniversary of his passing our thoughts are with Harriet, his family, and all those who knew or were touched by him and his writing. We say thank you, for creating the rich, diverse and captivating world of The Wheel of Time, and bringing us all together.

"He came like the wind, like the wind touched everything, and like the wind was gone." – The Dragon Reborn, R. Jordan

May you shelter in the palm of the Creator’s hand, and may the last embrace of the mother welcome you home.
