General
Shivan is one of the Heroes of the Horn of Valere. He is known as Shivan the Hunter and wears a black mask. He and his sister, Calian the Chooser, are said to herald the end of ages, the destruction of what had been, and the birth of what is to be (ACoS, Ch. 21).
Although his name is not directly mentioned at the time, we learn later that he appeared when Mat blew the Horn of Valere and participated in the battle against the Seanchan at Falme (TGH, Ch. 47; ACoS, Ch. 21).
When Mat realizes that Birgitte is a hero out of legend, he recalls the battle at Falme and remembers seeing Shivan there (ACoS, Ch. 21).
