Timeline
Stepin is with Kerene when the false Dragon Logain is captured by the Aes Sedai.
While in the Aes Sedai camp, Stepin and Lan practice fighting stands. Stepin tells Lan of happenings in the White Tower. He worries for his Aes Sedai Kerene because she does not rest enough and looks very tired. Stepin is also suspicious of Liandrin and the Red Sisters with her. He thinks they will try to gentle Logain without a trial.
In the evening, Stepin, the other Warders, and Nynaeve sit at the camp fire, talking. Stepin tells Nynaeve that "Aes Sedai" in the Old Tongue means "Servant of All." He tells her that the Warders do not serve the Sisters, they work together.
The next day Logain's followers break into the Aes Sedai camp, Stepin joins the battle, but feels his Aes Sedai is in danger with Logain breaking free of the Aes Sedai shield. After that Kerene is killed by Logain, Stepin feels it and runs back to the cave and tries to kill Logain. The false Dragon breaks Stepin's weapons in pieces and hurls them back at the Aes Sedai and their Warders. Everyone is eventually healed by Nynaeve.
Stepin buries his Aes Sedai Kerene and takes her Great Serpent ring to the White Tower in Tar Valon. Inside the city, Stepin leads the procession that showed Logain to the citizens.
At the White Tower, Stepin partakes in a ceremony, where he must leave his Aes Sedai's ring to be melted. He gets comments from the other Warders that bonding a new Aes Sedai might be good for him, but Stepin does not think so.
One evening Stepin asks Nynaeve for some tea that would make him sleep better. During the evening he gives Lan a cup of that tea to make him sleep through the night. In the morning Lan finds out that Stepin has killed himself.
