Introduction
The following document aims to describe the TarValon.Net Library's policy and associated procedures for the copyrightable materials, created by TarValon.Net members for the Library.
What is Copyright?
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship as soon as an author fixes the work in a tangible form of expression. (U.S. Copyright Office)
Copyright gives the creator:
- Ownership over their creations;
- Control over who can use their creations;
- Peace of mind that no one can download or distribute work without permission;
Each country has their national legal regulations of copyright. The differences in the national copyright laws present a challenge for global organizations with creators working worldwide and sharing content across borders.
Based on this, a treaty exists — the Berne Convention, administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) — that aims to protect the rights of creators around the world.
The Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works claims that
"The works mentioned in this Article shall enjoy protection in all countries of the Union. This protection shall operate for the benefit of the author and his successors in title." Article 2(6)
Copyright of TarValon.Net Library's Content
The Copyright Policy shall apply to all original content created by TarValon.Net's members for its use in this Library.
Content, created by members may include the following:
- Literary works - This includes all articles in the TarValon.Net Library, as well as all articles, published on TarValon.Net's official Blog - Tar Valon Times, which are also archived as articles in the LIbrary.
- Pictorial and graphics - This includes all graphics created for TarValon.Net, official organization logos (TarValon.Net's logo and all the ajah and company logos), banners for our blog, including graphical artwork for the Library articles.
All of the works mentioned above are copyright protected upon their creation, regardless of which form they are created in - whether they are in print or digital format.
According to the Berne Convention and the TRIPS Agreement, TarValon.Net's content is protected by U.S. and EU copyright laws, regardless of where they were created.
Disclaimers
- The © copyright symbol is not a requirement for copyright protection; Thus, its absence is NOT an indication that the work is not protected by copyright.
- It is the expression and not the idea of the work that is protected by copyright.
TarValon.Net reserves the right to authorize or prevent certain uses of the organization's original work.
These may include:
- reproducing it in various forms, such as printed publications or sound recordings;
- broadcasting it, by radio or television;
- public performance of it, such as in a play or musical performance;
- translating it into other languages;
- adapting it into a novel or a film screenplay;
TarValon.Net reserves the right to prohibit the use of its work and contents, in case that the organization's reputation may be harmed.

- changing any of TarValon.Net’s work into an offensive or otherwise damaging for the organization’s image and reputation, work.
