Chapter Icon: Spears, stars and crescent moon

Point of View: Min

Setting: Cadsuane's tent

Characters: Min, Cadsuane, Beldeine, Corele, Merise, Tam, Nynaeve

Outline

Min and Cadsuane discuss the prophecies about the Dragon Reborn and the place of the Callandor in them. Tam is furious about what the Aes Sedai turned Rand into.

Summary

Min sits with Cadsuane, resenting her. She thinks about one of the Prophecies "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands and the three shall be one" and says she thinks the interpretation is wrong. Beldeine says it is amusing that Min pokes through the tomes as if she were a scholar. Cadsuane asks Min what she meant, but Min is intimidated and claims it is not important. Cadsuane makes her tell anyway. Min says that Sajius interpretation, that it applies to nations is wrong and Callandor makes more sense. Cadsuane says she is right and tells Beldeine that an acknowledgement is due. Beldeine and Karldin leave instead of giving one. Min and Cadsuane agree there is more to the prophecy, but neither knows what it is.

The door slams and Tam comes in, furious, asking what Cadsuane has done to Rand. She claims nothing except encourage him towards civility. He tells her about his meeting with Rand, that he began with he script he gave her but it sounded false so he talked from the heart instead and that Rand lost control when he mentioned her name. He says Rand hates her and she has a lot to explain. Cadsuane wraps him in the power and reminds him about her requirement for civility, but he isn't intimidated and simply says that he never liked Aes Sedai and that a bully is a bully, whether she uses the strength of her arms or other means. Cadsuane puts him down and he tells them he thought Rand was going to kill him, till he got a distracted look in his eyes and opened a gateway to go west. Min realises he went to Ebou Dar to destroy the Seanchan.

Visions and Prophecies

  • "He shall hold a blade of light in his hands, and the three shall be one."

The blade would be Callandor. The three could be Rand and the two women with him, but it is more likely to refer to Rand using saidin, saidar and the True Power to reforge the Dark One's prison.

Min's Viewings
  • (About Nynaeve) "And... what was that vision that was suddenly hovering above Nynaeve's head? She was kneeling over someone's corpse in a posture of grief."

This may be something yet to come, or Rand.

  • (About Beldeine) "For instance, the black knife that spun around Beldeine's head recently could mean anything."
