Various women, including those from the Aes Sedai camp and nobles approach Egwene to ask if she was serious about opening the novice book.
Talmanes tells Egwene that he wishes to stay instead of going to lay siege to the Tower as he can feel that Mat needs him and that Roedran means to use the idea of the Band as a mercenary army to unite Murandy behind him. She agrees after making him promise not to get involved in a war. She returns to the Aes Sedai camp.
