Hammar was a Warder of the White Tower and a trainer for those who hoped to become Gaidin. He was blocky with thick black eyebrows and a gravel voice (TDR, Ch. 24).
He was a blademaster (TSR, Ch. 1).
Timeline
- He was training his students when Mat came to watch them, and he encouraged Gawyn and Galad to accept Mat's wager (TDR, Ch. 24).
- Gawyn told Min that he has sword lessons with Hammar (TSR, Ch. 1).
- It is said that he tried to break Siuan free during the fighting created by her deposing, but Gawyn killed him (TSR, Ch. 47).
