Summoned in Haste

Author: Val a'Shain

Setting: Cairhien, the World of Dreams.

Points of view: Egwene, Rand

Egwene's point of view

Rand's visit to Cairhien stirs up the city. In the palace tensions are getting worse and Egwene avoids the place after her earlier visit. She hears the news from the Wise Ones who do visit though. Not that tempers in the Aiel camp are any better. The last meeting between Rand and the Wise Ones doesn't seem to have been a success. On top of that the Shaido Wise Ones paid a visit to the camp. Although Aiel custom protects them from harm the visit doesn't do much to improve the mood of the wise Ones. Sevanna seems to dislike her especially. Egwene spends as much time away from the camp as she can.

She continues to meet Gawyn in the Long Man. He doesn't give her as much information as wishes. Other activities more than make up for that though. Egwene decides to take a look at the Sea Folk ship in the harbour. She doesn't know if Rand has spoken with them but from what she hears they will serve him. When she climbs the rope ladder to board the ship the rope gets cut. The Windfinder yells at her that they won't fall for disguises. She is refused the gift of passage. Angry Egwene uses the One Power to lift several people off the ship and throw them in the water. After that she limits her visit to the city to the Long Man.

Finally Bair allows her back in Tel'aran'rhiod. First for brief excursions under Bair and Amys' supervision and then finally to meet the Salidar Aes Sedai in the reflection of the Stone. She recognizes Sheriam and Carlinya and a few others but one woman is unknown to her. Ignoring the Wise Ones the three summon Egwene to Salidar with all possible haste. They want her to enter the World of Dreams in the flesh. The Wise Ones refuse to teach her that but Egwene thinks she can do it if she has a better idea of where Salidar is.

The woman Egwene didn't recognize shows her in detail. She has more control over her dream than the others. Not until Sheriam praises Siuan does Egwene realize who she is. Egwene promises to go to Salidar as soon as possible. Before she steps out of the Dream she realizes she must face the toh and tell the Wise Ones she lied about being Aes Sedai.

Rand's point of view

Rand steps out from among the columns in the Stone in Tel'aran'rhiod. He now knows the location of Salidar. He knows where Elayne is.
