General
Hessalam, "without forgiveness" in the Old Tongue is the Forsaken Graendal reborn into a new body. She has a hooked bulbous nose, thinning hair and off-center eyes. When Moghedien sees her for the first time, Hessalam is wearing a yellow dress that only heightens her ugliness. Moghedien thinks the body was probably chosen as punishment as Graendal was obsessed with beauty. Moridin informs her that even Moghedien is more favored than her now (Template:Aol)
Timeline
- She is probably the one who meets with Isam in the Town and orders him to kill Rand (AMoL, Ch. 2).
- She enters into Moridin's dreamshard through a gateway to join the meeting between Moridin, Demandred and Moghedien. When they are told that Mazrim Taim is now the Chosen M'Hael, she is the only one to voice an objection (AMoL, Ch. 2).
- She goes to the Black Tower when Taim is trying to Turn Logain, soon after Toveine is turned. She flees when Perrin removes the Dreamspike and Androl regains the ability to make Gateways (AMoL, Ch. 14).
- Perrin and Gaul encounter her in Tel'aran'rhiod. Perrin tracks her, and hears her muttering to herself that she is going to triumph. She seems him and sends balefire against him, and is surprised when he just bends it away from himself (AMoL, Ch. 22)
- After seeing how strong Perrin is, she flees, but he follows her and tries to force her to eat forkroot. She is able to avoid it and escape through a gateway (AMoL, Ch. 22).
- She fights at Thakan'dar as Rand enters the Pit of Doom, using balefire. After Falion and Duhara are killed, she flees (AMoL, Ch. 23).
- Perrin sees her coming out of Rodel's tent and realises she is using compulsion on the Great Captains (AMoL, Ch. 30).
- She acquires some of the Wise Ones and Aes Sedai on the side of the Light and forces them to aid her, using their strength. She fights again with Aviendha and as she is doing so, is attacked by Cadsuane and Amys (AMoL, Ch. 41).
- She forces Aviendha away, sending bar after bar of balefire, and draining strength from Sarene and Sashalle. She fights Amys, Talaan, Alivia and Cadsuane and is winning until Aviendha stabs her with a spear (AMoL, Ch. 42) as she is about to Travel with the True Power.
- Despite being wounded, she is still strong and tries to shield Aviendha. Aviendha unweaves a gateway, which explodes as she is weaving compulsion (AMoL, Ch. 47).
- The backlash of the explosion leaves Hessalam totally dedicated to Aviendha (AMoL, Ch. 48).
