Rhys a' Balaman is a Murandian mercenary that Elayne hires to defend Caemlyn. He is tall with grey streaked moustaches, waxed to spikes, eyes like stones and a thin lipped smile (KoD, Ch. 13).
Timeline
- He meets with Elayne on the battlements after fighting off Aldin Miheres' company. She tells him not to allow the enemy to escape. Birgitte tells her he will disobey (KoD, Ch. 13).
- He must have changed sides because Elayne signs his death warrant after she has won the battle against Arymilla (KoD, Ch. 35).
