General

Wit Congar is a man from Emond's Field. He is married to Daise Congar (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1).

Wit is a scrawny, bony man who is overshadowed by his wife (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 42; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 45).

Rand thinks to himself that Wit never seems ready to start over like most Emond's Field folk are, and that he rarely even seems ready to finish what he starts. Like most Congars and Coplins are known to do, he complains a lot and makes trouble (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1).

Timeline

  • Verin tells Perrin that while he was away hunting Trollocs, Lord Luc took a delegation of Emond's Field men to speak with the Whitecloaks, telling them that Emond's Field is closed to them and that they may not come within ten miles. Wit is one of the men with Luc. Daise apparently gave him a fit over it. Verin comments that it was not wise to antagonize the Whitecloaks (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 43).
  • Wit participates in the big battle against the Trollocs. Afterwards, Perrin sees him hugging his wife. As Daise steps out to testify that the Whitecloaks did nothing but sit there, Wit is clinging to her as if he never intends to let go of her again (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

Relationships

Wit is married to Daise. Although she often berates him, he seems to honestly love her, and she him (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 43; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).

Wit thinks that Nynaeve is too young to be the Wisdom of Emond's Field (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1).

Bili Congar is Wit's cousin (The Shadow Rising, Chapter 45).

Miscellaneous

Quotes

"Tam would not have stopped for Wit Congar if the man had not come out into the street so they had to halt or let Bela run over him. The Congars - and the Coplins; the two families were so intermarried no one really knew where one family let off and the other began - were known from Watch Hill to Deven Ride, and maybe as far as Taren Ferry, as complainers and troublemakers." (Rand; The Eye of the World, Chapter 1).

"What are we going to do about Nynaeve, al'Thor?" Congar demanded. "We can't have a Wisdom like that for Emond's Field." (The Eye of the World, Chapter 1).

"Daise Congar stepped out from the encircling throng with Wit, who clung to her as if he never intended to let go of her again. For that matter, her stout arm was wrapped around Wit's shoulders in much the same fashion. They made an odd picture as she planted her pitchfork-polearm firmly, her the taller by a head and holding her considerably smaller husband as though she meant to protect him." (Perrin; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 56).
