Rand has Merana serve him to try and convince the clan chiefs he does not follow Aes Sedai, though Mandelain is not convinced. After they leave, Berelain and Annoura arrive. Berelain is upset that Rand wants to send her away for her protection, thinking he will forget her service if he does so. Cadsuane arrives and is rude to Rand and annoyed when he is even ruder in return. She dismisses Berelain and tells Rand that she has faced more men who can channel than any other Aes Sedai, though she doesn't look for them. She asks if he hears voices, saying it is common amongst men who are going mad, which worries him. She then leaves with Anoura and Merana. Idrien Tarsin arrives, to tell Rand of Herid Fel's death.
