General

Alwhin was Suroth's Voice of the Blood and one of her so'jhin (TSR, Ch. 1).

Before being raised to the so'jhin, Alwhin was a sul'dam. No sul'dam had ever become so'jhin, but in Alwhin's case, Suroth deemed it necessary (TSR, Ch. 1). Alwhin had found out that sul'dam could be controlled by the a'dam, showing that they were actually marath'damane. She reported this to Suroth and so the High Lady bought her silence by raising her to the level of so'jhin (WH, Ch. 20).

Suroth considered Alwhin a nuisance. Mistaking her mistress's annoyance for something stronger, Liandrin murdered Alwhin in an attempt to curry favour (KoD, Prologue).

Alwhin was thin-lipped and had sharp features. She had blue eyes (TGH, Ch. 40). As one of the so'jhin, Alwhin had the left side of her head shaved and the remaining light brown hair braided (TSR, Ch. 1). She spoke with the slurring accent of the Seanchan (ACoS, Ch. 26).

Timeline

  • 998 NE: Alwhin finds out that sul'dam can be controlled by the a'dam (WH, Ch. 20).
  • 998 NE: Alwhin flees Falme when it falls (TSR, Ch. 1).
  • 999 NE: Alwhin is raised to the level of so'jhin and becomes Suroth's Voice of the Blood (TSR Chapter 1),
  • 1000 NE: Alwhin acts as a sul'dam when Suroth visits Captain-General Miraj (TPoD, Ch. 24).

Miscellaneous

  • Alwhin was not a particularly competent Voice of the Blood (TSR, Ch. 1).
  • Alwhin served Suroth not only as her Voice but also as a sul'dam. She led a damane when Suroth visited Captain-General Kennar Miraj (TPoD, Ch. 24).

Quotes

"No sul'dam had ever before been raised to the so'jhin, the hereditary upper class servants of the Blood, much less to a Voice of the Blood. Yet there had been reasons in Alwhin's case. Alwhin knew too much." (Suroth; The Shadow Rising, Chapter 1)

"Obviously Alwhin had found the collared pair of sul'dam and reported them to Suroth. Alwhin had done her duty, and been honoured by becoming Suroth's Voice." (Bethamin; Winter's Heart, Chapter 20)

"Alwhin had not been dangerous, merely a nuisance, awkward in her place as Suroth's Voice. She had achieved all she had ever wanted in reaching that, and the likelihood of her risking it by so much as even the smallest betrayal had been tiny." (Suroth; Knife of Dreams, Prologue)
