Asan Sandair is an officer who works in the city of Cairhien.

The front of his head is shaved. He is also balding, and it looks as if this has removed more hair than a razor has.

When Rand, Hurin and Loial arrive in the city of Cairhien, an officer named Tavolin, who leads them through the Foregate, takes them to a building to have their names recorded. Asan Sandair is introduced to them. He eyes Rand's sword with pursed lips, but doesn't say anything and writes their names down in a round hand.

Sandair tells them that they have to return by the same time tomorrow to give the name of the inn they are staying at. When Rand asks for the name of a good inn located in the Foregate, his mouth drops open; he and Tavolin think that Rand is a lord and it would not be proper.

Rand asks Tavolin and Sandair if they know of a beautiful young noblewoman named Selene, and Sandair says he will make inquiries.
