What is your Tower name?

Eniara Kisharad

When were you raised to Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah?

I honestly don't remember. Sometime in August 2003, I think...I'm sure it's in the records and will have to be looked up.

Why did you choose Brown?

There's a silly story behind why I chose Brown for my roleplaying incarnation of Eniara at Dragonmount, back before I joined TarValon.net. I'll leave that for some other time. Suffice it to say that being very entrenched as a Brown by the time I came here, I just went with what was familiar. It stuck and here I am. I tend to consider myself more Rainbow Ajah than anything, but Brown foremost among the other stripes.

Are you like the Browns in the Books?

A lot of the time, yes. I've always been a voracious bookworm and I habitually read about and learn new things. Wikipedia can be worse than crack! I also worked in a university library for awhile.

Do you love books and do you daydream a lot?

Yes, and yes.

How was your time as Citizen/Novice/Accepted?

I'm enough of an oldbie I joined before the city was conceived. I don't remember much about being a novice or Accepted. They were too long ago and at the time I had a lot of my energy directed into other online communities, leaving me mostly a lurker here. I do remember it took me (what felt like) forever to be raised to Aes Sedai, and that the Hall turned me down the first time I was put forward for raising because not enough people knew who I was.

How long have you been a member of TV.net?

More than 7 years. I joined in September 2002 after finding myself captivated by Eleyan and company at Dragon*con that year.

What things do you do for TV.net?

Right now I'm serving as the Assistant Director of Research. Most of my time in that position so far has been dedicated to a re-read I'm doing of the series, partly in preparation to launch headfirst into some major Library expansion after the release of The Gathering Storm. I've also served as Treasurer, the Events Committee head for several parties, and spent two terms as Sitter for the Brown Ajah.

How did you get to read the Series?

It's a pretty funny story, actually. Way back 11 years ago, in 1998 , I was a lowly freshman who'd recently moved and changed high schools. At the new educational institution they had honors courses in everything except freshman English, and unfortunately for me -- being the bookworm brainiac -- the only English class that would fit my schedule and had availability was a class of students who were not blessed with, shall we say, "langage abilities." Most of the kids in that class hated reading, writing, and anything associated with either of those. So there I was, about a month into said class (and beating my head on my desk in frustration everyday) when we get assigned an end-of-year book report. We could pick any book we wanted so long as it was more than 100 pages, and it'd require both a written report and an oral presentation. I walked into the school library amidst the groans of my peers and immediately went hunting the fattest fiction book I could find. I'll admit it was a bit of snobbery on my part but I was determined this was my chance to shine. What caught my eye was a beat-up copy of The Eye of the World. I'd not gotten really into fantasy stories at that point, but the plot synopsis looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a try. The teacher was skeptical about the book but she let me sign up for my report with it anyway. I plowed through tEotW like candy and went right back for The Great Hunt. The look on my classmates' faces when I plunked down not one, but two 800-page books on my desk to give my oral report was priceless. And, by the time I gave that report, I was already onto reading book 4. The rest has been history. I was caught hook, line, and sinker and quit counting the series re-reads I've done since after I finished re-read #13 of tEotW.

To whom are you bonded, if you're bonded?

Ciaran al'Trystan - We met over a discussion in chat about our mutual love of highland cows.

Who is your mentee, if you have one?

Alas, I've never had a mentee at TarValon.net.

Who is your favorite character of the Series? Favorite Nation?

Moiraine has been my favorite fantasy character since I first picked up The Eye of the World, and she remains so to this day. Oh the agony of waiting the last 11 years for her to come back, jumping for every book to find her yet again absent! As for favorite nation, I'll have to pick Kandor. It's more of a love of the Borderlands in general, but I created my roleplaying version of Eniara with her as Kandori so I'll always have a special place in my heart for that nation.

Have you ever attended any Real Life Functions? Did you like them if you did, and why? (Why do you think people should come to any future functions?)

I'm going to assume this is just official functions so I don't have to list all of the minor parties I've attended. I have attended every Dragon*Con since 2002, with the exception of 2009. I was at JordanCon 2009 and ComicCon 2005 (the year Robert Jordan was there promoting New Spring). TarValon.net-only events I've attended include Fall Ball '04 (Albuquerque), 5th Anni (Corpus Christi), and Fall Ball '06 (Toronto). I've also been at two Admin Meetings. I have yet to go to a party that I regretted attending. Some have been completely fantastic, some have had major drama, and some have found me having minor meltdowns. That being said, I love going and will continue to attend any I can. I certainly believe people should make the effort to attend at least one Real Life Function to add the in-person dynamic to their online interactions. It takes feeling part of a community to a whole new level. They'll also probably find that RL Functions are like Pringles...once you pop you can't stop!

What kind of music do you like?

I'm an eclectic music junkie and like something of pretty much everything. The only two genres I for the most part dislike are gangsta rap and heavy metal.

What is the craziest/stupidest thing you've ever done?

I work really hard to not be crazy or stupid -- have a phobia of looking näive or ignorant -- so I'm not sure how to answer this. Does dedicating the bulk of the last decade to living and breathing a fantasy book series and its associated communities count?

What job do you have?

Through January 2010 I'll continue with two jobs as an overnight produce stocker and cook. Come February I'll finally be launching into my chosen career as a cartography/GIS specialist.

Do you have a pet?

Not right now. Our last pet we had to put to sleep about six months ago. I rescued a pregnant stray cat in May, but as we're leaving the country we can't keep any animals. So, she and two of her kittens are now living at the in-laws. I desperately want a dog again but that'll have to wait until we're established and are sure we're not changing countries again for awhile.

What languages do you speak?

Alas, only English. I'd give anything for an intensive set of courses in Scottish Gaelic, though. I've tried teaching myself piecemeal but I get so distracted I forget what I've learned and always have to start over.

What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

Pharaoh. Short of that, a veterinarian.

Seanchan or Shara?

Considering both are pretty hard on channelers, how about neither? Instead I'll pick my sidekick Shara Sedai.

Verin or Adeleas?

This one is easy...Verin. We don't know enough about Adeleas to really get to know her and Verin has a lovely Green stripe.

Board games or computer games?

I love playing both. Computer games win out most of the time, but nothing can beat a rainy day with cup of hot tea and a good board game.

Coke or Pepsi?

Let's go with neither. I don't drink soda except the occasional diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Vernors. My vote lies with unsweet iced tea!

A short bio about yourself.

I'm a 26 year-old born and bred Michiganian, currently living in Texas but preparing to emmigrate to New Zealand in early 2010. I'm very happily married to Ayendra Kisharad, also of the Brown Ajah. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in Fisheries and Wildlife and a Post-graduate Diploma of Science ifrom the University of Auckland in Geography/GIS. When not wrapped up online I adore traveling, hiking, and generally enjoying the great outdoors and places I've never been.
