There is not a lot of information concerning the relations between Kandor and the other nations of the world, but there obviously seems to be some kind of alliance between all four of the remaining Borderland nations. As they all seek to defend the world against the Blight, they therefore all have one common goal. Alliances between the Borderlands are also strengthened by marriage (ie, Queen Ethenielle's son is married to one of King [[Paitar]] of Arafel's granddaughters).

General

Kandor is one of the Borderlands and as such, has a martial culture, though it does not wage war against its neighbors. As the Last Battle began, Trolloc hordes swept south out of the Blight, overrunning Kandor (This passage needs a reference). When the nations sign the Peace of the Dragon, Kandor is represented by Antol as Queen Ethenielle is trying to organize refugees (AMoL, Ch. 5). Later, when planning the battle, Agelmar suggests sending armies to Kandor, but Antol says it has already fallen. Easar agrees that it is beyond recovery. They instead decide to send Aes Sedai.

History

Unless stated otherwise, all information herein is taken from The Wheel of Time Roleplaying Game, Chapter 12.

A similar entry appears in the Wheel of Time Companion confirming the information available in previously published official sources outside of the main story arc.

Like all of the Borderlands, Kandor became a nation near the beginning of the War of the Hundred Years. Concerned about the ongoing war, the governors of the five northern provinces held a meeting; the outcome of this meeting was an agreement to form five independent nations. Because the purpose of these nations was to work together against the Blight and to protect themselves against the fighting in the southlands, for the most part Kandor did not take part in the war outside of self-defense. The first king of Kandor was Jarel Soukovni (TWoRJTWoT, Ch. 12).

During the Last Battle, Kandor is currently ruled by Queen Ethenielle Cosaru Noremaga.

Relation to Previous National Borders

According to maps, during the time of the Compact of the Ten Nations, the land that would become Kandor was part of the nation of Aramaelle, although part of Jaramide may also have ended up in Kandor. After the Trolloc Wars, part of the nation of Elsalam occupied the land.

Borders

Kandor is one of the Borderland nations, dedicated to defending the Blightborder. It is situated between Saldaea and Arafel, with the Blight to the north. At least part of Kandor is mountainous.

Noble Houses

There are several important noble houses in Kandor. They are as follows: The House of Arrel (Members: Edeyn and Iselle), The House of Marcasiev (Members: Varan) and the House of Noremaga (Members: Ethenielle, Brys, Diryk, Antol, Jarene).

Military

There is not much specific information on the military of Kandor, but it is known that the martial arts are just as highly developed in Kandor as in the other borderland nations. The army of Kandor is most likely similar to those of Arafel, Saldaea, and Shienar.

Also, at the meeting of the Borderland rulers, Queen Ethenielle remarks, "What I've left behind can guard the Blight short of the Trolloc Wars coming again." This tells us that the army of Kandor is of considerable size.

Cities, Towns, and Villages

The capital city of Kandor is Chachin, located in the mountains of Kandor. The merchants of Chachin have a good reputation and considerable wealth, even though the city's nearness to the Blight prevents it from being a major trading city. Another well known city in Kandor is Canluum, with the town of Ravinda located between the two.
