Malain is a member of Bashere's army. He was ordered to organize the cavalry outside of Maradon and make it look like they were going to attack the shadowspawn's fortification so that it could buy them some time to escape. Before this could be done, thousands of Trollocs were seen coming through the pass and Rand showed up and battled them.
