Meanwhile she holds her infant son [[Garlvan]] and her daughter [[Meise]] holds on to her skirt. They had lost three children in eighteen months. Their family is starving and has no food. After the outlanders refuse to trade with them because the Raven Empress forbids trade with Aiel she goes to feed Garlvan and finds out he is not breathing and that he is dead.({{tom|48}})
