Stepper
Stepper is one of Perrin's horses, a dun Stallion named for his quick feet (TDR, Ch. 1). He does not like the heat (LoC, Ch. 45) and can be a bit fractious with other horses (CoT, Ch. 5). It is not clear when he obtained him, but he had him by the time he had chased Rand to Tear (TDR, Ch. 1). He rides him to Tear (the Dragon Reborn), and from there to the Two Rivers (The Shadow Rising). When Perrin feels Rand needing him, he takes Stepper to Caemlyn (LoC, Prologue) but leaves him there when he Travels with Rand to Cairhien, for the other Two Rivers men to bring (LoC, Ch. 49). They have still not arrived in Cairhien when he learns Rand had been taken, so Perrin purchases a second horse, Stayer, which he thinks is not a patch on Stepper (LoC, Ch. 54). He is pleased to see Stepper again when the Two Rivers men catch up, and thinks that it will be good to ride him again, but that he intends to keep Stayer (LoC, Ch. 54). He rides him to Dumai's Wells (LoC, Ch. 54), but goes into battle on foot as he doesn't want to put the horses at risk (LoC, Ch. 55). After the battle, he rides Stepper round the site then through the gateway back to Cairhien (LoC, Ch. 1; Ch. 3). He leads Stepper through the gateway into Ghealdan (ACoS, Ch. 27) and later rides him when they encounter Morgase and her party (TPoD, Ch. 7) and to the meeting with Masema, after Faile has been captured (WH, Ch. 6). During the time of Faile's capture, Perrin often uses Stepper, riding him to the site of the Darkhounds tracks (CoT, Ch. 7) and to the Shaido camp (CoT, Ch. 10), then later to the first meeting with the Seanchan (KoD, Ch. 4) and to Malden, for the attack (KoD, Ch. 26), but does not ride him into the battle, instead going on foot (KoD, Ch. 29; Ch. 30).
