A thief-catcher is a Tairen who can be employed to track down thieves or stolen property. There is a brotherhood] that makes sure the thief-catchers do not set prices too low. Juilin charges ten percent of the value of recovered stolen goods, or a silver mark for each person tracked down (TDR, Ch. 49. they may also occasionally extract confessions (TFoH, Ch. 10) People who perform similar functions in other lands are typically known as thief-takers, but for Juilin at least, the distinction is important (TSR, Ch. 20)
