Outline

Egwene makes a trip to Tel'aran'rhiod where she meets up with the Wise Ones, Elayne, and Nynaeve and tells them about Rand's plan.

Summary

Egwene is in Tel'aran'rhiod and thinking about how it feels more unnatural now than it did on her first few visits. She thinks about how they had recently found several unexpected stores of grain. Egwene meets the Wise Ones in Tel'aran'rhiod at the Stone of Tear. Egwene informs them that the battle for the White Tower is over and that she is now Amyrlin and that Elaida has been taken prisoner by the Seanchan. The conversation turns to Rand, talking about his recent changes. Egwene talks about the respect she has for the Wise Ones and what they have done for her saying that she wishes some of the sisters were more like them. They suggest sending the sisters to them but Egwene says they will never go for that but that she might be able to send some Accepted. Egwene tells the Wise Ones that Rand plans on breaking the seals to the Dark One's prison. They tell Egwene that they will speak with him. The Wise Ones leave Tel'aran'rhiod and Egwene transports herself to the Hall of the Tower. Nynaeve shows up shortly after and Egwene tells her about the Seanchan attack on the Tower. Egwene asks Nynaeve for advice on how to be a leader and then turns the advice around on Nynaeve and asks her to accept her as Amyrlin. Elayne then shows up and Egwene asks her where she went. Elayne says she just got there so Nynaeve wonders who set off her wards. Egwene resets the wards. They start talking about Rand saying someone needs to watch him. They begin talking about his recent changes. Elayne says he has awakened. Nynaeve then realizes that Elayne is pregnant. Egwene brings up Rand's plan to break the seals and to her surprise Nynaeve and Elayne stick up for him saying it's better to fight on his terms when he's ready. Egwene then asks them to both return to the White Tower, take the test and the Three oaths and become Aes Sedai officially. Elayne refuses because she does not know if it will affect her pregnancy but Nynaeve agrees saying she knows the weaves for the test. Egwene tells them that the dream ter'angreal were stolen by Sheriam who was a member of the Black Ajah. As she begins to tell them the story her alarms go off and Egwene transports herself to the place where the ward is set to find Talva. Talva was starting to form weaves of fire but Egwene slammed a shield on her blocking her from Saidar. Egwene hears a sound from behind and automatically transports herself behind the woman behind her who is Alviarin and who was letting loose a weave of fire. The fire catches Talva and burns her to death. Alviarin vanishes. Nynaeve suggest meeting somewhere else next time but Egwene wants to set a trap. Egwene thinks to herself that she will find Mesaana.

Character Development

Egwene
  • She seems to no longer trust Rand treating him like all the other Aes Sedai have and setting in motion her plan to turn everyone against his decision.
  • She is very alert and on the defensive.
Elayne
  • Her pregnancy is starting to show enough that everyone is figuring it out.
  • She seems to still trust Rand's judgement.
Nynaeve
  • She seems to be keeping that loyalty she has been showing to Rand lately.
  • She is able to realize that Egwene is going through what she went through when she was made Wisdom and therefore able to relate to her and finally starts to accept and treat her like an Amyrlin.
