A similar entry appears in the Wheel of Time Companion. Other information about the character is also included in the Companion, but we did not use it in the TarValon.Net Library.

Author: Leora Oldessroth

Alar is an Ogier; she is the mother of Iva and the grandmother of Erith (TGH, Ch. 35). She is the Eldest of the Elders of Stedding Tsofu (TGH, Ch. 36).

  • Alar tries to dissuade Rand, Ingtar, and the others from using the Ways to follow Padan Fain; when she is unable to do so, she reluctantly grants them permission to enter the Ways (TGH, Ch. 36).
  • Alar tells Loial's mother, Covril, that he is with Rand and that Rand has promised to keep him safe (LoC, Ch. 20).
  • Rand asks permission from Alar to guard the Waygates against use by the Shadow but Alar will not grant it unless the Stump concurs (LoC, Ch. 20).

"Be not so hasty, Shienaran. You humans never take time for thought. Only decisions reached in calm can be sure." (Alar to Ingtar; The Great Hunt, Chapter 36).
