Rand, Mat, and Thom sit in his inn when they arrive at Whitebridge. Bartim wants the gleeman to perform, but he is not as generous as any other innkeeper Thom has met. When they ask for news, Bartim tells them Logain has been captured and is to be brought before the Queen and then to Tar Valon. They also ask whether he has seen Egwene, Perrin, Lan, Nynaeve, and Moiraine (they just give their description, not names), whereon he tells them that Fain and a Myrddraal (without knowing who they were) had already been looking for them. He advises them to leave Whitebridge as fast as possible.

"Aes Sedai had been involved in taking Logain, of course. Bartim spat on the floor when he said that, and again when he said they were taking the false Dragon north to Tar Valon. Bartim was a decent man, he said, a respectable man, and Aes Sedai could all go back to the Blight where they came from and take Tar Valon with them, as far as he was concerned. He would get no closer to an Aes Sedai than a thousand miles, if he had his way." (Rand about Bartim; The Eye of the World, Chapter 26)
"Bartim would probably tell his [grand-children] that he had seen Logain whether he did or not." (Rand about Bartim; The Eye of the World, Chapter 26)
