General

Julanya Fote is a woman of the Kin. She is plump and pretty, with touches of white in her dark hair (KoD, Ch. 32). She can Travel and makes a perfect scout, as she is accustomed to the life of a peddler (CoT, Ch. 14).

Birgitte wonders whether 'Julanya' is her real name, because Kinswomen are known to change them frequently (KoD, Ch. 32).

Timeline

  • For the last twenty years she has been a peddler (CoT, Ch. 14).
  • Birgitte sends out Julanya and Sabeine Ocalin to scout the villages along Andor's northern border where the Borderlanders pass through. The villagers there seem to think the army is camped for the winter. The two Kinswomen also have to look for word of the six major Houses that remain uncommitted; they report that rumor has Lord Luan at a dozen different places and not a whisper is to be heard of either Abelle or Ellorien (CoT, Ch. 14).
  • She and Keraille return to the Royal Palace to report that the High Seats broke camp in the morning. Julanya only stayed long enough to make sure Ellorien, Luan and Abelle are moving north (KoD, Ch. 32).
  • They are sent back to the camps, where they now work as laundresses (KoD, Ch. 35).

Miscellaneous

  • She carries a wooden walking staff and a belt knife, which are her only visible weapons, but she has more (KoD, Ch. 32).
  • She is a keen observer and skilled at taking care of herself as well as talking herself out of most situations (KoD, Ch. 32).

Quotes

"Both women had spent the last twenty years as peddlers, accustomed to hard journeys, sleeping in stables or under the trees, and listening to what people did not say as much as to what they said. They made perfect scouts. It would be a great loss if they had to be shifted to helping keep the city supplied." (Elayne on Julanya and Sabeine; Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 14)
