Senior Member Interview

  • Why did you choose Blue?

I honestly never thought I would choose Blue. Everyone always wanted to be Blue or Green because of how they were portrayed in the books and they had the most “page time”. But when I was guesting, I quickly realized that I had a very strong connection with the Blues. Many of the Blues were active on IRC and being an IRC junkie, I think I got to know them a lot more. When my time was up to guest and move on, I honestly felt sad to leave them and couldn’t wait to guest them a second time. That’s when I knew I had most likely found my home.

  • Are you like the Blues in the books? Do you plot and manipulate? Do you travel a lot?

I love to travel, but don’t get to do much of it. I’m not ploty or manipulative. But I do like to have my fingers in a lot of different things and be involved in the background.

  • Do you have a favorite Blue Ajah character from the novels?

Not really.

  • How long have you been a fan of the Wheel of Time series?

I discovered the series in 1997 and was hooked from the first book.

  • How did you first get into the series?

I took a English: Fantasy class in university and we had to read the first book and I was 100% hooked at that moment.

  • Who is your favorite "hero"?

I loved Perrin. I love wolves and to have the connection would be awesome. A little annoyed at his treatment of Faile most of the time. But that’s the age of the character for you.

  • Favorite bad guy/gal?

I always had a crazy fascination with the Seanchan. So while I don’t have a favourite person…I thought they had a very interesting story.

  • Favorite book and scene?

The Shadow Rising is my favourite book. SO MUCH HAPPENS!! And I liked the scenes with Perrin and Luc and was screaming “HELLO PERRIN!! MAKE THE CONNECTION!!!” while reading it. I thought it was such a great ‘can’t put down’ book.

  • If you were set down in Randland, who/what would you see yourself as? An Aes Sedai? Innkeeper? Seanchan Captain?

Either part of the Tuatha’on .. or Domani. Either would work for wildly different reasons.

  • How did you find TarValon.Net and what convinced you to stay and become a Senior Member?

I found TV around the time I was reading the 4th book and enjoyed the community aspect of the site. I got involved on the IRC side and went with it since then. I did disappear for a time, but am back now J

  • What do you do in "real life"?

I work in IT – I’m the person that gets called when someone’s computer doesn’t work properly and they need someone to yell at.

  • Do you have any hobbies?

I like to read (duh), play video games, spend time with my family and summer weekends at the cabin at the lake.

  • What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Broadway, celtic, pop, metal… really anything except for Country or Rap.

  • What are some of your favorite movies / television shows?

NCIS (the original), Simpsons, Family Guy, Amazing Race, Masterchef.

  • Aside from The Wheel of Time, what are a few of your favorite books/series?

The Kushiel series by Jacqueline Carey, Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, the Paksenarrion books by Elizabeth Moon and pretty much everything by Robin Hobb.

  • What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

A vet or a teacher. I couldn’t deal with the euthanasia side of being a vet and I don’t think I have good teaching skills to be a teacher – lack of patience is usually a bad thing to have for that!
