Vane was a merchant from Jurador in Altara. He was greying and stocky and dicing in The White Ring inn when Mat and Tuon visited. He went stiff when Mat asked if he could join, and unlike Kostelle and Camrin, remained so when Mistress Alstaing agreed. He left after a few throws, once it was clear Mat was winning, much to the surprise of the others. When he left, he fetched a group of other men who later tried to kill Mat. He was killed in the attempt, by a knife in the eye.
