Mehtan was a Seanchan clerk in Almizar, Amadicia. He was young, smooth-faced and looked like he might have come from the Two Rivers to Perrin's eyes.

When Perrin and Banner-General Tylee Khirgan went to Almizar to claim some raken, he died by spewing tiny black beetles.

His death causes some sort of disconcertment among Perrin's followers.

He is to be entombed ceremonially, since he "died in service", as Blasic Faloun, his disciplinarian, puts it.

"Clutching his middle, the young man doubled over and vomited a dark stream that hit the floor and broke up into tiny black beetles that went scurrying in every direction. Someone cursed, shockingly loud in what was otherwise dead silence. The young man stared at the beetles in horror, shaking his head to deny them.
