Originally the duties of the roles included being the {{JM}} Administrator for both Novices and {{Accepted}}. The position did have a couple of [[Staff]] Assistants, under different titles, the [[Assistant to the Mistress of Novices]], the [[Secretary to the Mistress of Novices]] and the [[Mistress of the Kitchens]]. In July 2007, the role was split to Mistress of Novices and {{MoA}} with the then Assistant, [[Valadilene Aldieb]], taking on the new role. There were no more official Assistants after this date. From January 2015, the scope of the position changed following the implementation of fully integrated community groups such that along with the {{MoN}} it had responsibility for all {{Novice}}s and {{Recruit}}.  Once the current incumbents complete their term, the positions will be merged into the {{MoNR}}.

Overview

The Mistress of Novices was an Admin position in the Department of Membership. The position focused on handling all aspects of a Novice's life in the Tower and provided counsel when requested to the Director of Membership and the Officers.

Department: Department of Membership

Position Level: Administrator

Rotation: Every Eighteen months

Merit Eligibility: Administrator Merit

Chain of Command

The Mistress of Novices reports directly to the Director of Membership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides counsel to the administration as needed
  • Keeps track of where Novices are at and sends raising packets as necessary
  • Provides the first line of defense when membership problems with Novices arise
  • Works with the Director and other membership admins when inter-group problems arise
  • Moderates the two forums associated with Novices
  • Moderates the usergroups associated with Novices
  • Builds morale and activity for the Novices and within the Novice Halls
  • Works to coordinate plans to celebrate community-wide festivals and freedays
  • Writes quarterly reports to the Director, Keeper, and Amyrlin Seat regarding the Novices
  • Any other possible responsibilty that deals with Novices

Expectations

  • Knowledge of the Bylaws and Member Manual are a plus; if you don't know them, you will learn them
  • Must be able to use tact, diplomacy, and discretion, as the role be privy to information that normal members are not

Time Requirements

  • Must be willing to serve in the role for a full 18 month term

The position did have a couple of Staff Assistants, under different titles, the Assistant to the Mistress of Novices, the Secretary to the Mistress of Novices and the Mistress of the Kitchens. In July 2007, the role was split to Mistress of Novices and Mistress of Accepted with the then Assistant, Valadilene Aldieb, taking on the new role.
