Perrin and Neald make a Power wrought hammer. Perrin realises it is his duty to be Lord of the Two Rivers.

Summary

Perrin's Point of View:

Setting: Perrin's Camp

Characters: Arganda, Faile, Fager Neald, Gallenne, Perrin

Perrin is confused about the Dreamspike and what happened in Tel'aran'rhiod. He shows Gallene and Arganda a map of the area and asks them the best place for an ambush. They both point to the top of a nearby hill. He goes to the forge, and sends Aemin away, saying he wants to create something. Neald offers to help by heating the steel and keeps it to a constant yellow red. As Perrin shapes the steel, Neald starts to do something else and calls on the Wise Ones for a circle. Perrin realises he has shaped three steel bars into the three pieces that make a hammer. As he puts them together, he realises that he wants to lead and that it would be wrong of him to abandon his people. When he finishes, he names the hammer mah'alleinir, meaning "He who soars" to commemorate Hopper. He asks Grady for a gateway and orders his army moved through it.

Faile's Point of View:

Setting: Perrin's Camp

Characters: Berelain, Faile, Perrin

Faile and Berelain talk about the hammer and the army Perrin has created. Berelain says they must dissuade him from attacking the Whitecloaks. Berelain believes he wants to kill Galad so that he doesn't have to worry about his oath to turn himself over after the Last Battle. She tells Faile that Rand promised her Perrin. When Faile says that neither Rand nor Perrin think in terms of securing strong alliances by marriage, Berelain accepts that it wasn't a promise, but still insists that Rand sent her with Perrin because he wanted her to have him. She tells Faile she is now focused on Galad.

Perrin's Point of View:

Setting: Perrin's Camp

Characters: Elyas, Perrin

Elyas tells Perrin he has to leave. Perrin tells Elyas he now accepts who he is.

Galad's Point of View:

Setting: The Whitecloak Camp

Characters: Dain Bornhald, Galad, Jaret Byar, Trom

Trom tells Galad that Perrin's army is on the heights above them. Byar arrives and claims that Galad has killed them all, but Galad says if the light would have protected them before, it will still do so. He realises that Perrin's archers are a great advantage and orders his men to take up shields.

Faile's Point of View:

Setting: Perrin's army

Characters: Alliandre, Berelain, Fager Neald, Faile, Gaul, Jur Grady, Perrin

Perrin tells Faile, Berelain, and Alliandre to retreat to safety once the battle begins. Faile begins to doubt and worries that Berelain might be right. Berelain asks Perrin to spare Galad if he must attack. Perrin has no idea what she is talking about and says he is there to save Galad. They see thousands of Trollocs and Myrddraal emerge from just below the Whitecloaks camp. He tells his archers to attack and the battle begins.
