General

Akarrin Comeris is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah who sided with the Salidar Aes Sedai when the White Tower split (LoC, Ch. 40).

She is described as being slim/slender (NS, Ch. 3; LoC, Ch. 40).

Timeline

  • When Moiraine and Siuan are Accepted, Akarrin teaches one of their classes. She tells the students that an Aes Sedai must know the rules to the letter and live with them before she can know which rules she can break, and when she can break them (NS, Ch. 3).
  • After the huge displays of saidar at Shadar Logoth, Egwene convinces the Hall that it is safe to send a small party to Shadar Logoth to find out what happened. Every Ajah wants a representative included in the party, but Akarrin is the only one to actually push forward. One sister from each other Ajah is sent as well (CoT, Ch. 16; CoT, Ch. 19).
  • Egwene sees Akarrin before the Hall convenes. She seems to be practicing what she is going to say (CoT, Ch. 19).
  • Some of the Sitters want to discuss the negotiations going on with Elaida, but Moria proposes that they listen to Akarrin's report first. Sheriam asks Aledrin to escort Akarrin and the others before the Hall (CoT, Ch. 19).
  • Akarrin and Nisain report that they found a large hole where Shadar Logoth used to be. There had been huge amounts of both saidar and saidin used there. After they report, when no one has any questions for them, they join the non-Sitter Aes Sedai who are watching the meeting. They are eager to be away from the eyes of the Hall (CoT, Ch. 19).

Strengths and Talents

Akarrin is little stronger than Siuan (after her stilling and Healing) in the One Power, if at all. However, she is still the strongest of the sisters sent to Shadar Logoth after the taint is removed from saidin, with the exception of Therva, who is about the same strength (CoT, Ch. 19).

Akarrin has some ability at reading residues, and that is one of the reasons why she is chosen to go to Shadar Logoth. Nisain, however, is better (CoT, Ch. 19).

Miscellaneous

  • When she teaches, she has quick eyes to catch who is not following her (NS, Ch. 3).
  • Egwene thinks to herself that it is a measure of how frightened everyone was at the large amount of saidar being used that Akarrin was the strongest Aes Sedai to actually volunteer to go (CoT, Ch. 19).
  • The Sitters did not consider Akarrin's report so sensitive that it should be for the Hall's ears only, so many Aes Sedai gather around the Hall as they meet (CoT, Ch. 19).

Quotes

"Besides, you must remember Akarrin's lecture two weeks ago. 'You must know the rules to the letter,'" she quoted, "'and live with them before you can know which rules you may break and when.' That says right out that sometimes you can break the rules." (Siuan to Moiraine; New Spring, Chapter 3)

Only yesterday had Egwene been able to convince the Hall that it must be safe for a small party to Travel to where the eruption had been -- even the memory was strong enough for everyone to pinpoint exactly where it had been -- and most sisters still seemed to be holding their collective breath until Akarrin and the others returned. Every Ajah had wanted a representative, but Akarrin had been the only Aes Sedai to push forward. (Egwene; Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 16)

Akarrin, slender in plain brown wool and a cloak with surprisingly elaborate green embroidery, was staring at nothing, nodding to herself now and then. Apparently she was practicing what she would say inside. Akarrin was not strong in the power, little more than Siuan if at all, but only one other of the six, Therva, a slim woman in yellow-slashed riding skirts and a cloak edged with yellow, stood even as high as she. That was a distressing measure of just how frightened the sisters were by that strange beacon of saidar. The strongest should have stepped forward for the task that had been given to these, but except for Akarrin herself, zeal had been notably lacking." (Egwene; Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 19)

"What we saw, Mother, was a roughly circular hole in the ground," she said, nodding for emphasis at nearly every word. She seemed to choose those words carefully, as if to make sure she was absolutely clear to everyone. "It may have been a precise circle, originally, shaped like half of a ball, but the sides have collapsed in some places. The hole is approximately three miles across and perhaps a mile and a half deep." Someone gasped loudly, and Akarrin frowned as though whoever it was had tried to interrupt. She went on without pausing, however. "We could not be entirely certain of the depth. The bottom is covered with water and ice. We believe it may become a lake, eventually. In any event, we were able to ascertain our exact location without too much difficulty, and we are prepared to say that the hole is located where the city called Shadar Logoth once stood." (Akarrin to Egwene and the Hall; Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 19).
