Senior Member Interview

November 12, 2011

  • Why did you choose Mahdi'in d'ma Dieb?

The Great Room is by far the best forum on the site and is extremely hilarious on times. Plus, I actually like several members and look forward to seeing them post, thus staying with MDD seemed the ideal choice. We're all quite close in a very non-close manner.

  • Do you fit the Mahdi'in d'ma Dieb stereotype? Do you enjoy using your deviant humor at the expense of others? Are you gay?

No, not really. I'm nice. My life mottoes are "It's nice to be nice" and "It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice".

And I've kissed a man before. I've touched numerous penis' and fingered many back passages. I do not, however, believe that I would set up a love nest with another man at any point in the future.

  • What male character from the novels do you think would fit best in Mahdi'in d'ma Dieb?

I wouldn't want any of them in our Company, but if I had to pick, it'd probably be the Forsaken geezer who created the Trollocs as he seemed like a bit of a genius.

  • How long have you been a fan of the Wheel of Time series?

Well, I've been reading the books since 2003......

  • How did you first get into the series?

Well, I started reading WoT when I was off school with recurrent kidney infections. The boredom, plus my appalling grasp on the English language led me to literature. I was in a local book shop and was drawn towards the numerous books that Robert Jordan had published and picked one up. My mother saw this and just bought it there and then. It took me another couple of months before I actually opened the thing but I quickly devoured the book and had Mamma al'Dealys traveling from shop to shop trying to find the next books.

  • Who is your favorite "hero"?

Er... Hero? I don't really have one. I really appreciate Egwene though. Mat I find the least annoying of the three men but I don't consider him a hero.

  • Favorite bad guy/gal?

I've a slight obsession with all of the Forsaken and always enjoy their chapters. I think if I was one, I'd be Graendal but the one I enjoy reading about most is Lanfear.

  • Favorite book and scene?

Hmmm.... Honey in the Tea sticks out, plus Egwene's battle with Mesaana. I enjoy reading the Forsaken's POV when they ponder about the powers of the Age of Legends and the tricks and ter'angreals that are lost to the world now.

  • If you were set down in Randland, who/what would you see yourself as? An Aes Sedai? Innkeeper? Seanchan Captain?

I'd want all the power of an Aes Sedai.

  • How did you find TarValon.Net and what convinced you to stay and become a Senior Member?

I can't remember. I didn't venture out of the book forums for months, mainly because I didn't know there were other forums! However, I remember seeing that people had post counts a million times my own and didn't realise how that was possible, thus I investigated. I got involved in a few more conversation and stayed around. Then everyone else was getting raised so out of the city and I got left behind so I advanced up the Tower.

Then I retired.

Then I came back as I missed people and re-climbed the Tower to get my bond back with Alessandra Estelle.

  • What do you do in "real life"?

I'm a Medical Student whom is graduating in 2012, so by the time you read this I may actually be a doctor. Fancy stuff innit.

  • Do you have any hobbies?

My main pleasure is tennis, of which I play and watch very regularly. I'm also a fat lump from South Wales so rugby plays an important part of my life. Other than that, I'm madly in love with my dog (a Labrador:collie mix) and I swim a lot.

  • What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

I kinda listen to whatever is popular on the radio at the moment. I love my spotify account and am regularly listening to Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons, Coldplay, The XX, Johnny Cash, Marvin Gaye and old classics.

  • What are some of your favorite movies / television shows?

I'm not a great lover of TV, although TV series I could watch over and over again include dinnerladies, A game of thrones, Mongrels, The Royal Family, Mad Men and Gavin and Stacey. I'm a recent convert to Downton Abbey too! (So that's quite a lot of TV, right?)

Movies? V for Vendetta, Harry Potters, The colour Purple and my childhood favourite, The Last Unicorn.

  • Aside from The Wheel of Time, what are a few of your favorite books/series?

Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire and anything on Anne Boleyn. I'm picking up Terry Pratchett's stuff now too and enjoying that.

  • What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?

I wanted to be a chef but quickly realised I wanted to be a doctor.
