General
Taringail Damodred was a nephew of Laman Damodred, and a Royal Prince of Cairhien. Laman helped him to marry Tigraine, the then Daughter-Heir of Andor, for a treaty between Cairhien and Andor.
Taringail had a son, Galadedrid Damodred. After the disappearance of his wife in 972 NE and the death of Mordrellen, his mother-in-law, he looked to marry the winner of the Succession in order to become Prince Consort (TEotW, Ch. 34). He married Morgase Trakand and fathered Elayne and Gawyn. He meant Morgase to die and himself to be Andor's first King, but instead, Taringail himself died in a "hunting accident" (TSR, Ch. 17).
Timeline

Relationships
Taringail didn't marry Tigraine or Morgase for love. He spent little time with Elayne and Gawyn, but spent a lot of time with Galad (TWoRJTWoT; TFoH, Ch. 16).
Morgase only married Taringail because of his marriage to the previous Daughter-Heir. Morgase thinks to herself that it was almost a relief when Taringail died (TFoH, Ch. 19).
He is a half-brother of Moiraine Damodred (TFoH, Ch. 17).
The dominance that marriage gave Taringail was the reason Morgase did not re-marry or make Bryne her official consort (ToM, Ch. 44).
