General

Deane Aryman was born in Salidar. Other than this, of her life before becoming Aes Sedai, we know nothing (TWoRJTWoT; TFoH, Ch. 11).

Deane was an Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah before she was raised to the Amyrlin Seat in FY 992. She was Bonwhin's replacement and did a lot of work to put the White Tower back together. She met with Souran, Artur Hawkwing's general, to try to convince him to let up the siege of Tar Valon. Although many of the histories say that she succeeded, it was actually Ishara who convinced Souran to lift the siege. Nevertheless, Deane was one of the strongest Amyrlins ever and her efforts went a long way to restoring the prestige of the White Tower (TWoRJTWoT).

Deane Aryman had nearly convinced the nobles of the land to accept the leadership of the White Tower as a means of restoring unity when she died (TWoRJTWoT; LoC, Glossary).

Quotes

"Sallie Daera. I don't know who she is or was, but I was told to give her name to any Blue who came around looking lost, so to speak." (Mistress Tharne to Siuan about Salidar; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 11)

Not Sallie Daera; not a woman at all. Only a Blue would know, or even suspect. Salidar. Birthplace of Deane Aryman, the Blue sister who had become Amyrlin after Bonwhin and had rescued the Tower from the ruin Bonwhin had poised it for. Salidar. One of the last places anyone would look for Aes Sedai, short of Amadicia itself. (Siuan thinks to herself about Salidar; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 11)

She prayed that the Hall had chosen an Amyrlin by now. Someone very strong, in the Power and in her heart. It would take another Deane, another Rashima, to make them once more what they had been. (Merana thinks to herself; Lord of Chaos, Chapter 49)

"Mother, by now even Lelaine and Romanda know you're the Amyrlin Seat in truth, whether or not they'll admit it. That pair wouldn't have fallen in line with Deane Aryman." (Siuan to Egwene; Crossroads of Twilight, Chapter 30)
