General

Cal is a young footman in the Aesdaishar Palace in Chachin, Kandor. He serves the Lady Ines Demain, one of the possible mothers of the Dragon Reborn. He is a source of information for Moiraine and Siuan on Ines. Siuan, dressed as a maid named "Suki", spends a lot of time with him (NS, Ch. 24; Ch. 25).

Cal is very pretty. Siuan describes him to have pretty brown eyes and a gentle manner (NS, Ch. 25).

Timeline

• Disguised as a maid, Siuan goes to meet with Cal to find out information on Ines Demain (NS, Ch. 24).

• Siuan learns nothing from Cal, with the exception that he is a good kisser (NS, Ch. 25).

• Siuan spends more time with Cal and manages to bring Rahien Demain up in casual conversation. Although he wasn't with Ines when Rahien was born, he knows when the birth took place (NS, Ch. 25).

• Siuan has led Cal to believe that she has been dismissed from Moiraine's service; Cal has offered her a bed with Lady Ines' servants, and thinks he can get her a place working for Ines (NS, Ch. 25).

"Well, I learned that young Cal knows how to kiss, and aside from that, I came up with a bucket of bilgewater." Siuan scowled suddenly. "Why are you looking at me that way? I only kissed him, Moiraine. Have you kissed a pretty man since young Cormanes the night you left for the Tower? Well, it's been as long for me, too long, and Cal is very pretty." "I led Cal to believe I'd been dismissed from your service for spilling wine on your dress, and he's offered me a bed with the Lady Ines' servants. He thinks he might be able to get me a place with his lady." She snorted with amusement, then caught Moiraine's eyes and snorted again, more roughly. "It isn't his bloody bed, Moiraine. And if it was, well, he has a gentle manner and the prettiest brown eyes you've ever seen." (Siuan to Moiraine; New Spring, Chapter 25)
