General

Merilille Ceandevin is Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah, and has worn the shawl for over a hundred years (CoT, Ch. 11).

Merilille is a native of Cairhien, and is slender with glossy black hair and liquid, dark eyes. She is palely elegant (ACoS, Ch. 16).

Merilille is the Salidar Aes Sedai ambassador in Cairhien (LoC, Ch. 5).

Timeline

• Merilille goes to Ebou Dar as an emissary to Queen Tylin (LoC, Ch. 5).

• Merilille is told about the Bowl of the Winds (LoC, Ch. 15).

• Merilille meets Adeleas, Vandene, Elayne, Nynaeve, Birgitte and Aviendha (LoC, Ch. 48).

• Merilille, Adeleas and Sareitha run in to Joline and Teslyn in the hallway (ACoS, Ch. 16).

• Elayne takes control of the other Aes Sedai (ACoS, Ch. 30).

• Merilille and the other Aes Sedai meet with Reanne and the Elders of the Kin (ACoS, Ch. 31).

• Merilille, the other Aes Sedai and the Windfinders discuss the Bowl of the Winds (ACoS, Ch. 39).

• Merilille Travels to the farm with the others (TPoD, Ch. 1; TPoD, Ch. 3).

Relationships

At first, Merilille disapproves greatly of Elayne and Nynaeve, and is of the opinion that they are not 'real' Aes Sedai. However, this changes once Elayne and Nynaeve take control of the Salidar Aes Sedai in Ebou Dar. Once Elayne makes it clear to Merilille and the others that she and Nynaeve were sent directly by the Amyrlin Seat, she defers to them both (A Crown of Swords, Ch. 31). Elayne likes Merilille, and hopes that it wasn't she who killed Adeleas. She also likes Careane and Sareitha, but not as much as she likes Merilille (KoD, Ch. 16).

Merilille greatly disapproves of Doilin Mellar (CoT, Ch. 11).

It is obvious that Merilille does not have a good relationship with the Sea Folk. After becoming their teacher, she is worked hard, and often used as a test subject for the Windfinders to practice their new weaves on. She is always extremely happy to get away from them for any amount of time. The Sea Folk refuse to let her leave, and Zaida says that Merilille agreed, personally, to be a teacher (CoT, Ch. 12).

Miscellaneous

• Merilille is moderately strong in the One Power, though both Joline and Teslyn have more strength. When Joline was a novice, Merilille was one of her teachers (ACoS, Ch. 17).

• After Adeleas is killed, Elayne and Nynaeve are certain that the murderer is either Merilille, Sareitha or Careane (CoT, Ch. 11).

• Elayne thinks to herself of how either Careane or Sareitha has to be the murderer of Adeleas and Ispan, unless it is Merilille, who is out of reach (KoD, Ch. 14).

• Chanelle wants to know if Elayne is even trying to find Talaan and Merilille. Elayne replies that the news regarding them is the same as yesterday, and the last week, and the week before that: Talaan and Merilille are not to be found in Caemlyn (KoD, Ch. 14).

• Chanelle claims that Merilille has kidnapped Talaan, and that she thinks Elayne is hiding them (KoD, Ch. 14).

• Chanelle tells Elayne that when Merilille is found, she will be punished for kidnapping Talaan and running away from her duty of teaching the Windfinders. She will then be sent to the ships to fulfill her part of the bargain (KoD, Ch. 14).

• Chanelle sends Renaile to tell the Aes Sedai at the Silver Swan in Caemlyn that they are to either produce Merilille and Talaan, or else teach the Windfinders themselves to help pay off what the White Tower owes to the Sea Folk (KoD, Ch. 14).

• When Elayne learns that someone is murdering Kinswomen, she realizes that the murderer of Adeleas could not have been Merilille, because it is unlikely that there were two murderers among them (KoD, Ch. 17).

As for numbers, something over two hundred thousand, I should say, and I very much doubt anyone but their own officers could be more accurate than that. Even hungry, that is a great many swords." "There are at least ten sisters with them, Elayne, though they made a great effort to hide the fact. Not adherents to Egwene, I should think, though they need not be Elaida's either.
