Tal Nethin
Author: Kyria d'Oreyn
General
Tal Nethin was a Cairhienin saddlemaker who lived in the town of Taien, on the other side of the Spine of the World. He was gaunt-cheeked and gray-haired. His sister was Aril Corl and his brother-in-law was Ander Corl (TFoH, Ch. 20).
Six days before Rand and his party arrived at Taien, the Shaido had ravaged the town, taken gai'shain and hung people from the walls as a sign for Rand. Nethin, his sister, and his brother-in-law were among the hundred survivors. Rand told his Aiel to feed them, because he wanted to take them across the Spine when they left (TFoH, Ch. 20).
On their way through Cairhien, Nethin tripped and broke his neck. Rand is afraid that this was his ta'veren work (TFoH, Ch. 30).
Quotes
"'We were afraid, my Lord,' Tal said hoarsely. 'They went, but they could come back. And he told us... The one with the markings on his arms told us not to touch anything.'" (Nethin to Rand about Couladin and the Shaido; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 20)
"Tal Nethin, the saddlemaker, had survived Taien to trip on a stone this very noon and break his neck falling on flat, grassy ground. Rand was afraid that had been him, too." (Rand thinking of Nethin's death; The Fires of Heaven, Chapter 30)
