General

At the beginning of the series, Theodrin Dabei is an Accepted of the White Tower. After the break in the Tower, she is raised to Aes Sedai in Salidar by Egwene al'Vere (LoC, Ch. 36).

Theodrin is a wilder. Before going to the White Tower, she had a block that kept her from channeling the One Power at will. Her block involved there having to be a man nearby whenever she channeled. And not only that; the man had to be one that she felt strongly for, either in affection or dislike. Along with this, she was able to use a minor form of Compulsion without knowing it; she could make a man want to kiss her, or not want to kiss her, or anything along those lines (LoC, Ch. 8).

Theodrin went to the White Tower at the age of fifteen. Her block was broken by Sheriam, with help from a groom named Charel and his twin sister Marel. Theodrin was attracted to Charel, so Sheriam would have him sit in on her classes so that she could channel. At some point, Charel stopped attending Theodrin's classes; instead, Marel attended them in his place, without Theodrin knowing about the switch. One day, Marel revealed that it was her that was sitting in the corner of the classroom, not Charel; Theodrin fainted, but upon awakening, after months of trying, her block was gone (TFoH, Ch. 54; LoC, Ch. 8).

Theodrin is Domani by birth. She is apple-cheeked and graceful, with coppery skin and a willowy neck. She is also somewhat older than Faolain (TDR, Ch. 11; LoC, Ch. 8).

Her personality is good-natured. She is kind and patient (TFoH, Ch. 54). Nynaeve thinks that she could teach mules how to be stubborn. Theodrin rarely gets frustrated, and she seems to have serenity down to an art (LoC, Ch. 13).

Timeline

  • Theodrin escorts Nynaeve back to her room after she returns to the White Tower (TDR, Ch. 11).
  • Theodrin relates to Nynaeve the story of how she got rid of her own block (LoC, Ch. 8).
  • Theodrin runs into Nynaeve, and catches her eavesdropping at the meeting between the Salidar Aes Sedai leaders and Tarna Feir (LoC, Ch. 12).
  • Theodrin participates in the ordeal with the bubbles of evil (LoC Ch. 14).
  • Theodrin, along with Faolain, swears fealty to Egwene (ACoS, Ch. 11).

Relationships

Theodrin has a relatively good relationship with Nynaeve. Though they tended to fight sometimes while they worked on Nynaeve's block, Theodrin was sincerely trying to help her. Nynaeve, at one point, recalls crying on Theodrin's shoulder when failing became too much to bear (TFoH, Ch. 54).

Theodrin has sworn fealty to Egwene and seems to like her more than Faolain does (ACoS, Ch. 11).

Not much can be said of Theodrin's relationship with Faolain, but seeing as how they both get treated as lower than full Sisters, it is quite possible that there is some kind of bond between them. Also, the fact that they both approached Egwene to swear fealty to her at the same time says that they had met before to discuss it; obviously, if there is dislike between them, it is minor (ACoS, Ch. 11).

Theodrin was told by Egwene to spy on Romanda, and thus follows her around and pretends to be one of her followers (TPoD, Ch. 16; CoT, Ch. 30). Romanda thinks to herself that she took Theodrin in because she is largely ignored by the Brown Ajah (KoD, Ch. 23).

Miscellaneous

  • As far as strength in the One Power goes, Theodrin is rather strong. She is above average strength, and is stronger than Faolain (ACoS, Ch. 10; ACoS, Ch. 11).
  • Romanda thinks to herself that the Brown Ajah does not know what to do with Theodrin, and that they finally took to largely ignoring her (KoD, Ch. 23).
  • Theodrin tries to act as if she is Aes Sedai. Romanda thinks that, despite this, she is a bright and level-headed girl who is well aware that she has no right to the shawl until she has been tested (KoD, Ch. 23).

Quotes

"Give over, Faolain," another of the Accepted said. The oldest of the three, she had a willowy neck and coppery skin, and a graceful way of moving. "I will take you," she told Nynaeve. "I am called Theodrin, and I, too, am a wilder. I will hold you to Sheriam Sedai's order, but I will not bait you. Come." (The Dragon Reborn, Chapter 11).

"Much better than mine." The slender woman sighed. "I could make a boy want to kiss me, or not want to. My block was men, not anger." Nynaeve looked at her incredulously, and Theodrin laughed. "Well, it was emotion, too. If there was a man present, and I liked or disliked him a great deal, I could channel. If I felt neither one way or the other, or there wasn't a man at all, I might as well have been a tree so far as saidar was concerned." (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 8).

"You have been avoiding me, Nynaeve. In the past month you've managed to wriggle out of all but three appointments. I can accept your trying and failing, but I will not accept you being afraid to try. (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 8).

Theodrin shifted her frown from the puddle to Nynaeve and planted fists on slim hips. "I am well aware of that," she said in a too level tone. "By all I've been taught, you should not be able to channel at all. I was taught you must be calm to channel, cool and serene inside, open and utterly yielding." The glow of saidar surrounded her, and flows of water fathered the puddle into a ball sitting incongruously on the floor. "You must surrender before you can guide. But you, Nynaeve - however hard you try to surrender - and I've seen you try -you hang on with you fingernails unless you're furious enough to forget to." (Lord of Chaos, Chapter 13).

"I am yours too," Theodrin sighed, "if you'll have me." She spread her hands disparagingly. "We are not much, I know, but it looks as though we are all you have. I must admit I was hesitant, Mother. Faolain is the one who kept insisting we do this. Frankly..." She settled her shawl again unnecessarily, and her voice firmed. "Frankly, I do not see how you can win out over Romanda and Lelaine. But we are trying to behave as Aes Sedai, even though we aren't really, yet. We will not be that, Mother, whatever you say, until the other sisters see us as Aes Sedai, and that won't happen until we have been tested and have sworn the Three Oaths." (A Crown of Swords, Chapter 11).
