Mentor
General
A mentor is a senior member of the same gender assigned to Novices or Recruits once they join the Tower. The level of involvement will vary with the individual, depending on what the junior member wants out of the relationship, but the mentor is expected to be able to answer questions about the Tower and to eventually provide a reference for when the person is raised.
Awards
In the Members' Choice Awards from 2006 to 2008, members voted on the best mentor. The difficulty in this vote was that many would consider their own mentor to be the best and so, as the site grew more in numbers the practise of this award stopped. The previous winners were;
- Best Mentor 2008 - Wen Chang
- Best Mentor 2007 - Lireina Dormerus
- Best Mentor 2006 - Morwynna Raevyn
Prolific Mentors
Not every SM becomes a mentor, and of those that do many only have one or two mentees. Some Members have had as many as ten or eleven though, either through longevity or as their previous mentees have progressed through the ranks leaving them free for more.
