The Black Ajah is the unofficial eighth Ajah of the White Tower. Its identity is secret, and each of its members also belongs to another Ajah. Heavily denied by the Tower both publicly and privately, the Black Ajah is nevertheless a reality of life in the Fourth Age. The only person to know the identity of all Black sisters in the Tower is the Nae'blis to the Dark One and the Head of the Black Ajah. Generally, most sisters know of only a few other members, a system which has been in place for thousands of years as a last defense against allowing themselves to be revealed.

These are the members of the Black Ajah, their original Ajah, their descriptions, some highlighted deeds and current status in alphabetical order.

  • Alviarin Freidhen (White Ajah) is the Head of the Black Ajah and a member of the Supreme Council; she reports to Mesaana. Her affiliation as Black Ajah is hidden. She is swan-necked (TSR, Ch. 1), tall and slim (TFoH, Prologue).
  • Amico Nagoyin (Yellow Ajah) is killed by Slayer in Tear. She is the youngest of the Black Ajah who left the Tower, only four years older than Egwene and Elayne (TDR, Ch. 25). She is slender and pretty with a long neck and pale skin (TDR, Ch. 51). She is a beautiful woman, with large, dark eyes (TSR, Ch. 5). She is exposed as one of the original thirteen who left the Tower with *Liandrin.
  • Asne Zeramene (Green Ajah) is killed by a lightning bolt created by the circle of Sea Folk Windfinders during the rescue of Elayne Trakand in "Knife of Dreams". She has been of the Green Ajah for some hundred and thirty years and is from Saldaea. She is also Black Ajah. She has four Warders, one of them Powl. She has dark, tilted eyes and a bold nose (TSR, Ch. 38). She is exposed as one of the original thirteen who left the Tower with Liandrin.
