Canler is an Asha'man Dedicated from Andor. He is sturdy with gray in his hair (WH, Prologue).

He works out how to bond his wife and shows others like Jur Grady how it is done, even though Taim does not like his Asha'man trying out thing they are not taught (ACoS, Ch. 27).

He fights among Rand's armies against the Seanchan (WH, Prologue).

He reports daily to Logain and is present when Kajima comes with the news about Taim posting the names of Asha'man deserters on the Traitor's Tree (WH, Prologue).

He is left at the Black Tower after Logain takes most of the loyal trained men and stays loyal (ToM, Ch. 46).

He is working with Nalaam, Algarin and Jonneth on using the Power as a weapon and though a little suspicious, seems to accept Nalaam's tall tales (ToM, Ch. 46).

When Coteren embarrasses Androl, Canler seizes the source but drops it when Androl tells him to (ToM, Ch. 46).

He feels Rand has abandoned them, but when Algarin says he met Rand and respects him, Canler says that is good enough for him (ToM, Ch. 46)
