The Embassy from Tar Valon arrives.

Summary

Egwene wanders through Cairhien in a good mood, amused by how people take her for an Aiel woman, despite her height and eyes. She is pleased that the Wise Ones finally agreed that she could walk inside the city for exercise instead of around it, and because her headaches were gone and they would let her back in Tel'aran'rhiod soon. As she wanders, she listens to rumors. One claims the Aes Sedai are at war with each other. As Egwene thinks about Aes Sedai, she starts looking around differently, wondering who might be an Aes Sedai spy. She worries that someone might report her as an Aes Sedai, until she realizes that everyone sees her as an Aiel.

She goes on listening to rumors, though she has become accustomed to knowing things shortly after they occur, thanks to Elaida's desk. When one man is set on by four others for claiming that Rand was one of the Forsaken, Egwene steps in and starts lecturing them as if they followed ji'e'toh. Until she realized what she was doing. She notices a mounted party moving through the streets, and can see by their riding cloaks that the women are Aes Sedai, and at least one of them is a Red. She realizes it is the embassy from Tar Valon.

She runs back to the Wise Ones' tents, and finds Berelain drinking tea with Amys, Bair, and Sorilea. She warns them about the Aes Sedai, and Berelain gets up to go back to the palace, asking Amys to send Rhuarc. The Wise Ones treat Berelain like a daughter, and Egwene wonders why. Egwene asks Berelain, in a round about way, not to mention her. After she leaves, the Wise Ones ask Egwene about the Aes Sedai, and "suggest" that she stay by the tents to avoid them. The Wise Ones then subject Egwene to a series of tests to determine if she is truly healthy. They declare she is, and she joins them in a sweat tent, leaving only when some men arrive. She goes to bed, too tired to go to Tel'aran'rhiod, and dreams of Gawyn.
