Overview

The Social Media Team (SMT) is responsible for marketing TarValon.Net to non-members (i.e. external marketing) through the Official TarValon.Net social media channels.

Department: Department of Marketing

Position Level: Staff

Rotation: Non-rotating role

Merit Eligibility: Staff Merit

Chain of Command

The Social Media Team reports to the Social Media Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engaging through social media such as Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Sharing TarValon.Net News, including but not limited to membership announcements and Tar Valon Times blog posts.
  • Brainstorming and creating new engaging content on a monthly basis.
  • Scheduling, prescheduling and editing social media posts.
  • Actively engaging with the community in response to comments and direct messages.
  • Curating interesting and engaging content from like minded communities and information sources.
  • Monitoring ongoing topics of interest for news and updates (such as WoT series, book releases by Brandon Sanderson, etc).
  • Driving traffic to the TarValon.Net Forums/Discord through consistent posting and engagement.
  • Discovering new channels, partnerships and ways to engage socially.

Expectations

  • Actively engaging and participating in the Social Media Team Forum and Discord Channel.
  • Participating, whenever possible, in weekly Discord meetings on Wednesdays at 8:30 PM EST.

Time Commitment

  • Activity level: 1 hour daily on the TarValon.Net forums, Discord and social platforms or 7 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Must have been a member of TarValon.Net for at least 6 months. Open to any rank; citizen or above.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must enjoy social media interactions.
  • Must adhere to TarValon.Net member Code of Conduct when engaging on social media.
  • Must understand the sensitive nature of social media and, therefore, maintain and promote the culture of inclusivity as is consistent with our membership standards.

The position was announced April 30, 2015 and the first new staff appointed June 1, 2015.
