The Black Ajah is the unofficial eighth Ajah of the White Tower. Its identity is secret, and each of its members also belongs to another Ajah. Heavily denied by the Tower both publicly and privately, the Black Ajah is nevertheless a reality of life in the Fourth Age. The only person to know the identity of all Black sisters in the Tower is the Nae'blis to the Dark One and the Head of the Black Ajah. Generally, most sisters know of only a few other members, a system which has been in place for thousands of years as a last defense against allowing themselves to be revealed.

These are the known members of the Black Ajah, their original Ajah, their descriptions, some highlighted deeds and current status in alphabetical order.

  • Amico Nagoyin (Yellow Ajah) is killed by Slayer in Tear. She is the youngest of the Black Ajah who left the Tower, only four years older than Egwene and Elayne (TDR, Ch. 25). She is old enough to be Egwene and Elayne's grandmother, with a friendly face, despite the smooth-cheeked calm of an Aes Sedai, dark hair and gray eyes (TDR, Ch. 25; Ch. 51). She is exposed as one of the original thirteen who left the Tower with Liandrin.

  • Talene Minly (Green Ajah) is a Sitter for the Green Ajah in the White Tower. She grew up as a farmer's daughter. Talene is revealed as Black Ajah by Doesine, Pevara, Saerin, Seaine and Yukiri when they force her to re-swear the three oaths (TPoD, Ch. 26). She claims that Elaida is also Black Ajah (WH, Prologue). Talene receives an order to appear before the Supreme Council, so Saerin hides her in a lower basement of the White Tower (KoD, Prologue). She is golden-haired, statuesque and lovely (ACoS, Ch. 32).
  • Temaile Kinderode (Gray Ajah) is from Cairhien. She is one of the Black Ajah that torments Amathera (TSR, Ch. 52; Ch. 54). When Liandrin fails in an attack on Moghedien after she is wounded by Birgitte, Moghedien gives her to Temaile to soften up (TFoH, Ch. 34) and after seeing what Temaile did to Liandrin, the others are frightened of her (WH, Ch. 10). Temaile is captured in Caemlyn after the failed capture of Elayne. She is short and slight with dark hair to her shoulders, blue eyes and a fox-like face (TSR, Ch. 52). She is exposed as one of the original thirteen who left the Tower with Liandrin.
