Overview

Moderators are responsible for ensuring the smooth running of our forums.

Department: Department of Moderators and Operators

Position Level: Staff

Rotation: Approximately every six months

Merit Eligibility: Staff Merit

Chain of Command

Moderators report to the Director of Moderators and Operators

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reading all the threads and keeping an eye on them,
  • Archiving threads as necessary,
  • Pruning the forums as necessary, and
  • Alerting the Director should an issue arise, and working with the Director (and whoever else in the Administration needs to get involved, usually the Keeper or Director of Membership) to resolve any issues.

General Forum and Frivolous Fun

  • Keeping an eye on the threads and making sure that people aren't getting out of line/fighting/flaming, etc.

Current Events

  • Employ tact and diplomacy in your dealings with other members
  • Need to remain fair and approach all moderator dealings with as little bias as possible
  • Commit to at least 15 hours a week dealing with moderating Current Events.

Discussion Halls

  • Read all threads and check out all links that are posted (especially in the Entertainment forum).
  • Make sure that people aren't getting out of line, fighting, flaming and so on.

Olde Warder and Hen

  • Keep an eye on the threads and making sure that people aren't getting out of line/fighting/flaming, etc.

Book Forums

  • Keeping an eye on the threads and making sure that people aren't getting out of line/fighting/flaming, etc.

Expectations

  • Must have the time to actively read the threads
  • Have knowledge of or a willingness to learn phpbb moderation actions.

Time Commitment

Qualifications

  • May be any rank, so long as you've been a member of the community for at least 3 months, and

History

The forums have split, merged and been renamed many times. This has mostly had no effect on the status of Moderators, but after the Spring 2015 Admin Meeting, it was decided to make the Mafia Mods into Admins, rather than staff
